Stop Airport Flights Doubling

Expansion Plans

Newcastle Airport plans to double the amount of passengers, increase private jet flights, and expand the terminal and runways. The Net Zero Carbon by 2035 plans only apply to airport operations, and do not account for emissions released by the huge number of flights proposed. We must take action now to reduce the climate destruction caused by the aviation industry.

We encourage everyone taking part to ask the airport to make clear that flight emissions increases are NOT included in the Masterplan.

The Problem

70% of flights are taken by 15% of the UK population. Why should 100% of the population suffer the consequences of climate change when most flights are taken by a better-off minority?

Aviation currently accounts for 2.5% of global CO2 emissions from fossil fuels and land use. Increased emissions will further accelerate problems caused by climate breakdown, affecting us, wildlife, and the environment.
