COP30: Newcastle highlights - Pictures and Reports

Updated: 2 days ago

This year's Global Day of Action - to demand from world leaders overdue urgent climate action - came after the gloomiest evidence yet of the perils of inaction.

The World Meteorological Organization reported that carbon dioxide (CO2) levels in the atmosphere soared by a record amount to new highs in 2024, committing the planet to more long-term temperature increases, with inevitable consequences for environmental and health harms and extreme weather.

Campaigners in Newcastle responded in fierce fashion: banners, placards, chants, music, performance, heartfelt discussion. Speakers from groups across communities spoke passionately about all-year-round efforts to defend our environment, tackle harm and work together on cleaner sustainable solutions.

This was a day that mattered. We and campaigners around the world demanded that all decision makers and leaders show the same commitment and sense of urgency.
